Wee Care Residential Service

Each year approximately 1000 children are supported by the Wee Care Residential service with 33% – 36% identifying as either Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The service provides 24 hour, 7 days a week crisis/emergency accommodation for children up to and including 11 years of age. Access to the Wee Care Residential Service is available for parents, with no cost attached, who are faced with an emergency and have been unable to arrange alternative care for their children. Because of the diversity of children’s experiences, the service is flexible and committed to meeting the individual needs of children, young people and their families. The service is established within a residential suburb of Townsville to provide a safe environment for children and families to access. Wee Care Residential Service also provides the following early intervention services:

  • Support for Grandparents/Kinship carers providing ongoing respite care;
  • Mental health/disability respite;
  • Family support and respite;
  • Homeless respite;
  • Financial assistance and emergency food vouchers;
  • Referral and collaboration; and
  • Supported Playgroup.
