A weekly supported playgroup is open to any parents in the Townsville community. The playgroup is a meeting place for reunification meetings between children, parents and foster carers. Many secondary services and clients participate in playgroup. These include QYS Young Parents program, Townsville Aboriginal & Islander Health Service FIS service, Sera’s Women’s Shelter and Family Emergency Accommodation Townsville (FEAT).

Althea Projects value diversity and tailor programs to suit the cultural diversity of children and families using the services. NAIDOC, SNAICC, Mabo Day, Child Protection Week and Foster Care Week are some examples of the significant events celebrated and acknowledged with all stakeholders.

Angel Identity

Angel Identity provides assistance to families, children or young people who have special needs that will support their involvement in the foster care system. This includes providing assistance to purchase and fit a headstone or plaque for children in care who have become deceased from any cause. The program aims to give children in care an identity. The service operates 100% from donations and is an initiative of Shared Family Care and Foster Care Queensland.

The New Direction

The name change from Wee Care Family Inc. to Althea Projects Inc. brings together 40 years of grass-roots support to families and children in the Townsville community and sets our service up for an exciting future.

Althea Projects is humbled and proud to be continuing to support children and young people to reach their full potential through our existing programs but also in new and innovative ways. This new direction will allow our organisation to better respond to the needs of Townsville families; partner with a range of government, private and philanthropic investors in a way that builds on our greatest assets - our people.
